The Centerpiece of the Persian Wedding
The wedding table (sometimes called the wedding spread) known in Farsi as the Sofreh Aghd is the quintessential centerpiece of all Persian wedding preparations. This wedding table is custom-prepared especially for each couple. The couple sits at special seats at the head of the wedding table during the ceremony. Typically there will be 23 symbolic Sofreh Aghd items almost always present on each wedding table (plus or minus a few items which each couple can tailor to their own tastes) — items that contain profound meaning for the bride and groom.
Remember that the size of your Sofreh Aghd must comfortably accommodate the Sofreh Aghd items so that there are no yawning gaps or any empty (khali) areas. Sofreh Aghd items are never crammed, never spread haphazardly and never sitting apart. The goal, as with the marriage, is a well-integrated, lovingly attentive, harmony.
